Tokyo Heliport: Where Tokyo Helicopter Tours Take Off
Where Tokyo helicopter tours take off: Tokyo Heliport at Shin-Kiba, with the bus from Shin-Kiba Station and the walk, Chiba Wangan Heliport by Inage Seaside Park, and which flight leaves from which.
Tokyo Heliport is at Shin-Kiba in Koto Ward, on reclaimed land by Tokyo Bay: take the train to Shin-Kiba Station, about ten minutes from Tokyo Station, then a Toei bus four stops to Tokyo Heliport-mae, about seven minutes, or a short taxi ride. The private flights from Tokyo Heliport and the Mount Fuji flight take off there. The other two Tokyo flights, past the Skytree and Tokyo Tower and the 50-minute night flight, leave from Chiba Wangan Heliport, further round the bay in Chiba.

Tokyo Heliport, Shin-Kiba
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government runs it as the largest public heliport in Japan, with about 20,000 take-offs and landings a year, from fire and police helicopters to news crews and sightseeing flights. For visitors it is the convenient one. Shin-Kiba Station is on the JR Keiyo Line, the Rinkai Line and the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line. From the bus terminal, take a Toei bus from stop 1 or 2 bound for Shin-Kiba Junkan, Toyocho or Wakasu Camping Ground, get off at the fourth stop, Tokyo Heliport-mae, and walk about 60 metres to the gate. On foot it is roughly 20 to 30 minutes from the station.

Chiba Wangan Heliport
The heliport for the Skytree and Tokyo Tower flight and the 50-minute night flight is in Mihama, Chiba City, facing Aqualink Chiba on the east side of Inage Seaside Park. It is not in Tokyo, and two reviewers found it hard to reach or to find: one wished for a pickup from the nearest station. The JR Keiyo Line runs along this shore from Tokyo Station. Allow plenty of time, take a taxi for the last part, and keep the address from your booking confirmation to show the driver.

On the day
- Arrive early. Thirty minutes before take-off at Chiba Wangan, 40 minutes for the Fuji flight from Tokyo Heliport, where latecomers cannot board.
- Travel light. The Fuji flight does not allow luggage or large bags, and there is little room on any small helicopter.
- Bring ID and the passenger details. Operators ask for names and weights; the hotel-pickup ride asks for valid ID at check-in.
- Check the weather the day before. The best time guide covers what cancels flights.
