Weight Limits and Passenger Rules for Tokyo Helicopter Tours

Tokyo helicopter tour weight rules: 120 kg per person on most flights, 220 kg in total for three, children on a lap, pregnancy, and why operators ask.

Updated 2026-10-23

Most Tokyo helicopter tours do not take passengers over 120 kg, and the small helicopters also have a total limit for everyone on board, such as 220 kg for three on the private flight from Tokyo Heliport. That is why every operator asks for each passenger’s weight when you book: on the Skytree and Tokyo Tower flight, missing names, ages or weights can mean being refused boarding. Weigh yourselves honestly with clothes on, and tell the operator early if you are close to a limit.

Why the weight matters

A sightseeing helicopter is small, often four seats including the pilot’s, and the pilot works out the load and its balance before every flight, which is why the seating is usually the pilot’s decision rather than yours. The total limit covers everyone and anything carried, so even a light group can be over it with bags; on the Fuji flight luggage is not allowed at all, and on any flight it is best to leave bags at the hotel.

Children

On the Skytree and Tokyo Tower flight and the night flight, a child under two can ride free on an adult’s lap, one lap child per flight and in the back seat only; you still enter the child’s age and weight. Children cannot fly without an adult. The hotel-pickup ride is not suitable for children under 10, so check each listing before you book for a family.

Pregnancy, health and fear of flying

The private flight from Tokyo Heliport does not take pregnant passengers, and the hotel-pickup ride is not suitable for pregnant women or people with severe motion sickness. The Fuji and coast ride is not suitable for people with heart problems or high blood pressure, and the skydive asks for good health and no fear of heights. If you are nervous about flying, a 10-minute flight is a gentle first try: reviewers on the 30-minute flight describe feeling safe and comfortable on their first time in a helicopter.

What to send when you book

  • Every passenger’s full name, age and weight, in kilograms.
  • A phone number that works in Japan, for the Fuji flight and for messages on the day.
  • Any child on a lap, with age and weight. Then arrive early: 30 minutes for the flights from Chiba, 40 for the Fuji flight. The heliport guide has the directions.
